Balancing Darkness and Light refers to artists' balance of darkness and light through sound and color as well as the struggle of balancing the two in human nature, through emotion, thought, and action. An album of contrasting colors, darkness and light is heard in works by Rachmaninoff, Chopin, Scarlatti, Gershwin, and Fazil Say. I included Fazil Say's innovative compositional style of Gershwin's Summertime from his opera Porgy and Bess, a jazz-inspired and timeless lullaby, as it is a story and feeling of my home, Charleston, South Carolina. “Summertime” has become one of the most beloved arias all over the world, sung and performed in many variations and orchestrations. I hope it brings you to place of peace and where “the livin’ is easy.”

"Music speaks to us in a way that words cannot. Music is a profound extension of our emotions, an expression of humanity.  In sound, we cannot only hear, but feel and experience the paradox of the beauty and torment of life. Gustav Mahler once said "if a composer could say what he had to say in words he would not bother trying to say it in music." The artist's path is to communicate the most intimate expressions of human nature, in all of its ebb and flow of happiness and sadness. To this endeavor I am completely dedicated.  ~Natalia
